Story
Hello there friends and family!
Having grown up just outside New York City, it's always been a dream of mine to run the NYC Marathon-and gaining entry to this highly sought after, bucket-list race is difficult. I'm overjoyed to say that my dream is becoming a reality, thanks to the wonderful charity I've teamed up with called Keep a Child Alive!
When looking through the charity list I knew I wanted to collaborate with one that focuses on children. Keep a Child Alive was created in 2003 and began as an emergency response to get life-saving HIV/AIDS medication and treatment to the individuals and communities most affected by the global epidemic. Today, the scope of their work has expanded quite a bit, and even includes the crisis in Ukraine where they help the most vulnerable children and their families who are orphaned at the border of Poland.
Keep a Child Alive focuses on the people and communities of Africa and India, and is committed to empowering children and young people with the necessary resources, confidence and opportunities to reach their full potential and live healthier, happier lives! So how does this marathon-charity thing work?! It's pretty simple:
I raise $7,000 for Keep a Child Alive between now and November 4th, and they give me an entry ticket to the NYC Marathon!...also known as the biggest marathon in the world, with over 50,000 runners!
The 26.2 mile adventure goes through all 5 boroughs of New York and ends in Central Park. Even though I live in Colorado, I'll always be a New Yorker. Crossing the finish line of any marathon is an incredible feeling, but crossing this one will be extra special. I run for many reasons, but most importantly to show my son, Iverson, that hard work and commitment leads to great accomplishments! As I cruise through the city that day, all I'll be thinking about is the hug I'm gonna get from him in Central Park:).
